Bomber Girl

About the game

A small browser-based bomb-and-loot mini-game where players guide Bomber Girl across a snowy grid, bombing crates to uncover hidden rewards while racing back to safety before a hidden monster catches up.

Problem

Built as a compact test project for Manava Tech Labs, a startup team based in India, the goal was to prototype a risk/reward loot mechanic — letting players push their luck for bigger rewards while risking everything to a randomly hidden monster — within a small, self-contained web build.

Solution

Developed Bomber Girl with vanilla JavaScript and a fully DOM-driven board, built around a procedural map generator that carves 1-3 connected paths across the grid each round so obstacles and rewards stay spread out rather than clumping in one area. Implemented a bet/cash-out risk system, pathfinding-based tile selection, a hidden monster mechanic, and a full obstacle/reward asset pipeline, all playable directly in the browser.

Lessons Learned

Working through the procedural board generation surfaced how easily naive randomized carving algorithms can create unbalanced, lopsided maps, and reinforced the value of steering randomness toward explicit distribution goals rather than relying on pure chance.
